This section of Bend’s landscape is undergoing a renaissance after growing in stages over the years. Residential density is low, with a number of large undeveloped tracts and older homes remaining in a semi-rural setting. The 10-acre Fields Farm on SE Pettigrew Rd. grows produce for the local market.
Comfortable, well-designed homes in the Tanglewood neighborhood near Larkspur Park and the Bend Senior Center were right for the late 1980s. To the south, Foxborough, Larkspur and other subdivisions arose to answer demand for attractive and affordable Craftsman homes in the early 2000s.
Today, a new generation of new home neighborhoods is giving Southeast Bend a makeover. One example is Hidden Hills, where one and two-story Craftsman and mid-century modern homes are intermixed. Harcourts The Garner Group represents several builders active in Hidden Hills. Other developers and builders are hard at work in Southeast Bend.
The area has potential. Undeveloped land in the extreme southeast part of the district is presently unavailable for home construction as it not served by the city sewer system. The city’s Southeast Interceptor project, which will meet sewage collection needs on the east side of Bend, is being built in stages and should be complete in 2017. The Bend Park and Recreation District has purchased 37 acres of this land for a future park.
Bend’s newest elementary school, Silver Rail Elementary, is in southeast Bend. It will open in September 2015.
